In the past five years, we have seen how our flagship program, JAGfest, has acted as a catalyst of creativity, where we workshopped 21 new pieces of Black theater and provided hundreds of opportunities for Black artists to create beautiful works.

With an innovative approach of pleasure, leisure, rigor, and healing in the art-making process, JAGfest has proven to be a beacon of new Black theater-making.

Some of the plays, like Nathan Yungerberg’s Esai’s Table have gone Off Broadway, after being workshopped in JAGfest 2.0 and put on for a month-long run here in WRJ. Esai’s Table was set to go onstage at the Cherry Lane Theatre in New York, but was unable due to the pandemic. It will happen, don’t you worry, just not quite yet!
