Screening of August Wilson's FENCES
April 8
Briggs Opera House
5 South Main Street
White River Junction, VT 05001
In anticipation of JAG's staging of the classic American story, join us at Briggs Opera House in White River Junction for a screening of the Oscar-winning adaptation of August Wilson’s FENCES.
Directed by and starring Denzel Washington, FENCES tells the story of Troy Maxson, a former professional baseball player in the Negro Baseball League who dreamed of stardom but was deemed too old to continue his career when the major leagues integrated. Now in Pittsburgh in the 1950's, Troy is a sanitation worker and bitter, having missed his opportunity for success. His battle with resentment leads to tension with his wife, Rose, (played by Academy Award winner Viola Davis) and son (Jovan Adepo) in the midst of a changing American decade.
Enjoy hors d'oeuvres provided by Piecemeal Pies before the screening followed by a pre-show discussion with JAG's Artistic Director, Jarvis Antonio Green.
